The Big Idea Unique Solution or Implementation Award

Dividend$
Miami University
Oxford, OH

Opened: August 2009

Gross Sales/Day: $9,500

Dividend$ provides food services to students in Miami's new Farmer School of Business. Offering a variety of packaged foods, beverages and snacks in a convenient location, it incorporates innovative custom bar coding and U-scan technology systems specially developed for the operation to give customers a way to check out quickly and efficiently.

The bar code ordering system produces a label for the entire food order, which makes the self-checkout at the POS terminals quick and easy. The system allows Dividend$ to process high volumes of patrons — over 1,700 a day on average — in short time windows. To date, more than three quarters of Dividend$ patrons take advantage of the U-scan checkout.

Dividend$ is located in a high-traffic intercept point near one of the Farmer School's entrances, meaning high volumes over short periods between class periods. The average daily $9,500 take puts the venue on track to get back its $2 million cost in less than five years.

The food options in the eatery include…

  • Traders Greens (made-to-order salads)
  • Asian Market (sushi and dim sum)
  • Panini Portfolio
  • Preferred Stock (soup and quiche)
  • Fiscal Grind (coffee and pastries)

In addition, there is a large variety of packaged salads, wraps, sandwiches, snacks and beverages.
