More than half of Michigan's public school districts now contract out food, custodial and/or transportation services according to research by the Mackinac Center, reports the Michigan Capitol Confidential. The survey of the state's 550 districts found that 295 (53.6%) privatize at least in one of the three areas, a 9.1% increase over 2010. Foodservice is the most commonly outsourced service, with 33% of districts contracting out this function.
