University Reopens Fire-Devastated Dining Hall

The fire-devastated Moffatt Dining Hall reopened its doors on February 2nd at Erskine College & Seminary in Due West, SC. A blaze that began in a dishwasher on July 10 gutted the building, prompting a $2 million restoration renovation. Additions include a new heating and air conditioning unit, new carpeting and lighting, a new sound system and new tables and chairs as well as a new freezer, two new walk-in coolers and a new tray conveyor and dishwasher in the area where the fire began.

While construction was going on, meals were served in a temporary dining area in the gym lobby. Dining employees prepared meals in mobile kitchens and rolled them up a handicap ramp into the lobby three times a day. Erskine’s dining program is managed by Aramark
