Metz acquired the foodservice accounts of Smith & Sons Food, Inc, out of Macon, GA, last November, adding 18 healthcare accounts in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama.  The expansion has allowed Metz to gain a presence in the South, leading to five additional new accounts to date.

The company also created Metz University to train managers in its way of doing things, and a Culinary Committee of chefs and GMs has been established to standardize the approach to food. A culinary team is also working to develop a larger database of from-scratch recipes for making healthy versions of the most popular school foods for its K-12 clients while its Gluten-Free Zone concept has been a hit in the college segment.
