NarrativeBaltimore County does not include the city of Baltimore, which has its own school district. The county system has been growing its breakfast program—46 sites now get breakfast in the classroom—and a supper program begun last year. A grant from the Maryland Dept. of Education has brought a fruit/vegetable cart to nine schools in 2012/13 and six in 2013/14, where it serves a healthy mid-morning snack. The system uses its middle and high school kitchens as satellite sites to supply its elementaries.
