St. Cloud State University unveiled a 35-seat campus bus that will run on recycled vegetable oil from the university’s dining halls as part of its April 18 Earth Day festivities. Called the Husky Fried Ride, the 40-foot-long vehicle is powered by a mix of 80 percent recycled vegetable oil and 20 percent diesel fuel and is used to shuttle students on park-and-ride routes and four campus routes. Husky Fried Ride is believed to be the first public bus in the nation to use waste vegetable oil. Sodexo manages the dining halls from which the waste oil comes and helped fund the project.
