A group of parents at Tampa's MacFarlane Park Elementary School think they have figured a way around the school's prohibition on competitive food sales by having volunteer parents take possession of the meals from a local vegetarian restaurant off school grounds and then delivering them to the students, reports the St. Petersburg Times. The program is a fundraiser for the PTA that sells dishes bought from health food chain restaurants like EVOS and Wholesome Tummies.
Originally, the students participating in the program had received takeout orders from the chains. The new system seeks to take advantage of a loophole in the competitive foods rule that allows parents to deliver food to their children.
