Las Vegas Looks to Ads on Foodservice Trucks for Revenue
As many as 28 Clark County (NV) School District food service trucks could carry commercial advertising sometime next year, generating as much as $1.4 million in additional revenue, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The move is a compromise that avoids putting ads on school buses, something the district school board rejected as too exploitative and potentially hazardous as it would reduce the distinctiveness of the familiar yellow vehicles.
Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, is facing a budget shortfall and is exploring different strategies to generate extra revenues. School Board members voted 5-0 to begin exploring the feasibility of a pilot program to sell space on district food service trucks, which transport meals from the district’s central kitchen to its various school dining sites. The trucks already carry some internal ad messages, such as for teacher recruitment.
