Link Between Sodium and Potassium?

New study confirms relationship to heart disease

Too much sodium and too little potassium could double the risk of dying from a heart attack and is associated with a 50 percent increased risk of death from any cause, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirms.

The study, which recorded the diet of 12,000 US adult men and women 20 years and older over a 14-year period, found a dietary imbalance of the two minerals posed the greatest risk.

The reason for this is that when an individual eats too much salt, the heart-damaging effects can be neutralized with potassium.

Best way to stay safe? Eating a plant-based diet consisting of a variety of fruits and vegetables.
