Foodservice contractor Mid-America Services, Inc., has agreed to pay $100,000 to Potter County (TX) under a plea agreement stemming from charges that the company used bribes to win the county jail's food service and commissary contracts, reports the Amarillo Globe-News. Potter County Sheriff Mike Shumate was found guilty in June of accepting bribes from Mid-America. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to testify against Mid America and its president, Robert Wayne Austin Jr. Austin recently guilty to giving a gift to a public servant. Mid-America's future is uncertain, though it still holds the Potter County jail food service contract. The commissary contract was recently put out a bid.
