Longtime Executive Director Joseph Spina of the National announced during the annual NACUFS conference that he will retire next year, after 22 years at the helm of the organization. “Last night, I asked my wife how to make this announcement, and she said, ‘Just tell them you’re retiring because you’re too old,’” Spina told the crowd with a smile, adding that he plans to take some time to do things he’s always wanted to do while he has his health.“
NACUFS will benefit from some new blood at the top,” Spina said. “I feel very, very confident that we will have the leadership we need during the next year.” He added that a search plan is being implemented for a new executive director.
In its more-than-50-year history, NACUFS has had only two executive directors.
