Michigan school foodservice directors plan to offer menus that highlight state produced ingredients during the week of May 17, reports the Grand Rapids Press. The promotion coincides with the state’s Local Foods Week proclamation, which marks the fifth National Farm to Cafeteria Conference, being held in Detroit during the week.
The foodservice directors developed the special menu, called MI Products, My Michigan, MI School Lunch” to promote healthy meals and illustrate how schools can play a part not only in making better food choices but in boosting Michigan farmers. Among the menu items being served are cherry burgers, asparagus, sweet potato chips, baby carrots and Rice Krispie Treats (made of course from a certain cereal produced by Battle Creek, MI-based Kellogg’s Co.).
