Cutting-Edge DC School Meal Program May Fall to Budget Ax

Washington, DC, Mayor Adrian Fenty has proposed eliminating funding for healthier meals in the city's schools as part of his plan to close a $188 million budget gap, reports the Grist onlne magazine. He proposes to halt $4.6 million in payments to the meal program that subsidizes school meals by an extra five to 120 cents if they contain a locally grown component.
