Carl Fitz, co-founder of the Fitz, Vogt & Associates foodservice management firm, died unexpectedly on August 2, 2010 near his home on Pleasant Lake in New London, New Hampshire. He was 68.
Fitz began his career in food service with Saga Foods at the University of Pittsburgh and later served as food service director at Windham College in Putney, Vermont. There he met Roy Vogt, business manager of the college. When Windham College announced its closing in 1977, the two formed Fitz, Vogt & Associates, one of New England’s largest food service management companies. (It became part of Trusthouse Services Group in the spring of 2008.)
In 1989, when Vogt retired and Fitz purchased his share of the company, FitzVogt had grown to 28 accounts and $6 million a year in business. And when Fitz retired in 2006, the company was up to 165 accounts and $45 million in business. Today, FitzVogt has 180 clients from Maine to Virginia and as far west as Indiana, and projected annual sales of $50 million.
