Age Discrimination Suit Against Aramark Dismissed

An 85-year-old woman’s age discrimination suit against Aramark was dismissed by a Manhattan Supreme Court judge, who found the cause for discrimination “highly unlikely,” given that she was replaced by a 75-year-old. The woman, Mildred Block, had worked nearly 20 years at a beer stand at Shea Stadium, home field at the time of Major League Baseball’s New York Mets (the Mets moved into a new ballpark, Citi Field, last year, where Aramark also manages the concessions, and where it still employs Block).

For the 2008 season, she was moved to another stand, which she claims generated far less in tip money. Aramark declined to comment on the verdict but court papers indicated that the company had filed as evidence complaints from customers about long lines and slow service at the stand she helped staff.
