Schwan's Reduces Pizza Sodium
Schwan's Food Service, Inc., has announced that its popular Big Daddy pizza product for schools will contain 15 to 25 percent less sodium than before starting this fall. Schwan's is the largest supplier of pizza to the National School Lunch Program and currently works with about three-quarters of the nation's more than 96,000 schools. It had pledged earlier this year to reduce the sodium content of its school pizza products by 10 percent by Fall 2011.
Schwan's Senior Marketing Director Michael Wiser announced the change at the 64th annual national conference of the SNA. The Big Daddy's line, first introduced in 2005 for middle and high school students, represents about a third of Schwan's school pizza business.
