Cadillac (MI) Area Public Schools has a possible hit on its hands with a recently introduced food bar program at five elementary schools, reports the Cadillac News. Begun last May, the program involves setting out snack choices like fresh vegetables (lettuce, carrots, cauliflower or broccoli) and fresh fruits (apples, bananas, oranges or grapes) as well as canned fruits like apple sauce and a grain item (pretzels, tortillas or animal crackers). Most of the selections were already being served, but the self-serve nature of the bars has increased consumption, school officials report.
