Foodservice staff from the Victor (NY) Public School District joined forces with local chef Michael Speranza, local healthcare provider Thompson Health and a School Food Independence Committee (SFIC) consisting of representatives from half a dozen regional school districts to put on a community dinner in its high school to promote local foods, reports the Victor Post. The event, which is in its second year, featured locally grown and raised meats and produce in dishes like pulled pork barbecue, rosemary roasted chicken, pumpkin bread and apple crisp. SFIC consists of representatives from the Victor, Canandaigua, Honeoye, Bloomfield, Naples and Red Jacket school districts. One of the others will host the event next year.
