Memphis City Schools is revamping the way it operates its foodservice's under former Baltimore City Schools Nutrition Services Director Tony Geraci, reports the Memphis Daily News. Among Geraci's achievements since coming aboard last fall include opening at least 20 gardens on school sites to teach youngsters about growing crops they can then consume, and increasing the amount of local product purchased by the district for its meals program. He is even exploring a collaboration with a nearby correctional facility to have inmates work a farm in exchange for reduced sentences.
