First Lady Honors HealthierUS Schools

Over 1,200 schools across the country have met the movement's goals.

First Lady Michelle Obama addessed a reception on the White House South Lawn on Oct. 18th that honored schools that had met the goals of the USDA's HealthierUS School challenge to promote nutrition and physical activity.

“When many kids spend half of their waking hours and get up to half their daily calories at school, you know that with the food you serve and, more importantly, the lessons you teach that you're not just shaping their habits and preferences today, you're affecting the choices they're going to make for the rest of their lives,” she noted.

Nationally, 1,273 schools met HealthierUS' goal to double the number of students eating meals based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. For a video of Mrs. Obama's remarks, go to http://video.food-management.com/video/U-S-First-Lady-Speaks-on-the-He;k-12-foodservice.
