Cupcakes Back in Texas Schools

Children in Texas schools can relax. They will be allowed to enjoy cupcakes in their classrooms to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays.

After the Texas Dept. of Agriculture last March announced a statewide crackdown on junk foods in schools—including even foods and drinks passed out in classrooms—the birthday cupcakes looked doomed.

However, following an outcry from parents, state officials amended the policy to allow cupcakes on special occasions (though only to be served after lunch).
