KFC has run afowl of the PC police with a recent promotion for its Double Down sandwich product. The promo involves having young women distribute coupons on college campuses while wearing sweatpants with the words “Double Down“ plastered on their backsides. It kicked off at Spalding University in Louisville, KY, in mid September and was slated to come to several other schools in the coming weeks.
The chain says there is nothing unusual or controversial about what they're doing. The key market demographic for the Double Down is young males, and what better way to get their attention than with young females?
The National Organization for Women (NOW) is not amused. “It's so obnoxious to once again be using women's bodies to sell fundamentally unhealthy products,” fumed NOW President Terry O'Neill to USA Today.
So, if they were selling nice healthy fruit salads, that would be okay? Good to know…
