The HFM All-Stars team of (l. to r.) Karea Anderson of St. Peter’s Hospital, Jaime Palenque of Banner Thunderbolt Medical Ctr. and Paul Luttman of Avera McKennan Hospital won third place in the 2008 Kitchen Contender Catersource Chef’s Challenge, recently held at the Las Vegas Hilton during the 2008 Catersource Conference & Tradeshow. Nine teams of chefs competed, with each given a mystery box of ingredients to be used to prepare 3,000 hors d’ouevres. The HFM’s winning recipe was Basil Scented Pork With Wax Bean Pico de Gallo & Lime-Cilantro Crema on Ecuadorian Yam Pupusas. Eric Eisenberg of Swedish Medical Ctr. was team leader for the HMF squad. Teams from the National Association of Catering Executives and the International Catering Association won first and second place, respectively.
