Among the residue of the labyrinthine financial doings of convicted swindler Bernard Madoff are the charges made to the corporate credit card used by his family and close business associates. These were revealed as investigators try to untangle the financial mess left behind by the former investment securities dealer who recently pled guilty to orchestrating a historic Ponzi scheme that has left many clients ruined.
The American Express Corporate Card was used mostly by Madoff's inner circle, and amidst the charges for extravagances like limo services, vacations and shopping sprees in exotic locales were a number of eye-popping culinary adventures.
These included a $441 bill from a gourmet bagel shop, and we can only wonder how many bagels — even gourmet bagels — THAT bought. The Madoff Gang also ran up a $2,879 tab at a Mexican restaurant in Jackson Hole. We assume it wasn't a Taco Bell.
But the one that tops them all for sheer gall is the $254.38 spent at a Jackson Hole sushi bar,. The total included a $15 tip!
