Bon Appetit Management Co. has constructed a “low carbon diet” calculator that anyone can access to measure the impact of different meal choices on the environment. Located at www.eatlowcarbon.org, the interactive site lets users instantly calculate the carbon footprint of different menu items, from cheeseburgers (high) to lentil soup (low).
Hosted by the Bon Appetit Management Co. Foundation, the site is part of the company's efforts to promote its commitment to sustainability. That includes the national Low Carbon Diet program, which seeks to reduce the carbon emissions of the foods Bon Appetit serves by 25 percent through a combination of local sourcing and phasing out highly processed and packaged items.
