The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 24th, by NRA Chairman Edward R. Tinsley III and will be effective February 23. Meanwhile, it was also announced that Anderson will be moving to the National Association of Chain Drug Stores to become its President and CEO.
Anderson joined the NRA in 1999 after already having established a distinguished career as an association executive. As a young man, he served as press secretary for presidential candidate John Anderson (no relation) before turning his career to association management. He joined the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) as its director of government and trade relations, and later was appointed its President.
Anderson leadership is credited with modernizing the NRA’s management structures, developing a highly capable senior management team and providing excellent stewardship of the organization’s financial resources. He has also been highly visible in Washington as a committed representative of the restaurant industry’s interests on the hill.
In 2004, Anderson was named the Association Trends Executive of the Year by ASAE (American Society of Association Executives) and the Center for Asssociation Leadership.
According to NRA’s Tinsley, the association’s officers wish Anderson well and have assembled a search committee to expedite the process of finding a new president and chief executive officer.
