Boston College has promoted Dining Services Director Patricia Bando to associate vice president of its newly created Auxiliary Services division, which includes the dining services, bookstore, Eagle One debit card, vending, transportation/parking , retreat center and copy/printing services departments. Helen Wechsler has been named to succeed Bando as head of dining services at the school.
The Illinois Dept. of Corrections has dropped plans to outsource foodservice at the state's prisons. Rather, at the employee union's suggestion, the state will cut costs by purchasing less expensive food items for prisoner meals.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology, an affiliate of Penn State University based in Williamsport, has signed a deal with Northern Tier Sustainable Meats Cooperative, Inc., a local four-farm cooperative, to bring 20,000 pounds of bulk ground beef and hamburger patties made from grass-fed cattle to the school. The agreement is the latest in a series the school has inked with local farmers and ranchers in Bradford County. It already purchases poultry, vegetables and dairy products from area farms.

Aramark has signed a contract with Christus Santa Rosa Health Care of San Antonio to add services like caterng and retail food services to the array of outsource services (facilities management, patient transportation) it already provides the system. When the programs outlined in the 10-year agreement are fully implemented, sales are expected to reach more than $20 million annually, according to Aramark.
