Harvard has begun utilizing used vegetable oil from its Annenberg Hall dining hall to fuel a Harvard Recycling Waste & Management truck, as a result of collaboration between concerned students and administrators. This is the first time such a program has been attempted at the university, according to a report in the Harvard Crimson. The $5,500 cost to convert the formerly diesel-powered vehicle into a biodiesel vehicle was footed by the Green Campus Loan Fund, but estimates show that the money spent will be recovered within a year and half due to fuel savings. The truck shuttles large objects such as furniture, computers, and scrap metal around campus.
